Welcome

Welcome to Les Terraces sur la Dordogne. We hope that you will enjoy staying here as much as we do.

Les Terraces is located in the pretty bastide town of Sainte-Foy-La-Grande which is half way between the towns of Bergerac & St. Emillion in the Gironde department of Aquitaine in South-West France. The local area is known as "Pays Foyen" and is the meeting point of the Gironde, Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne departments.

Les Terraces was built, we are told, some time in the late 1200s - early 1300s and was probably a warehouse for goods to be shipped via barge down-river to Bordeaux. Today it provides spacious rental accommodation for up to 15 people in 3 tastefully furnished flats.

From the two terraces on the river side of the house you can enjoy wonderful views both up-river towards the little town of Le Fleix and down-river to Porte-Sainte-Foy.

Sainte-Foy-La-Grande has a population of around 2750, which makes it big enough to meet most day-to-day requirements, but small enough for visitors feel very much at home. The town's residents are friendly and welcoming and many shopkeepers have some English, which makes life easier for the uncertain French-speaker.

About Us:

Christmas - BVI Style! We, Graham and Alex, are an English couple who live in the British Virgin Islands and have done for many years. We bought Les Terraces in early 2009 as a "bolt hole" from the Hurricane Season and the hot and humid months of August and September in the Caribbean. We have our own accounting and business services company in the BVI and so, unfortunately, we can only visit France for short periods.  It is for this reason that we decided to make the house available for holiday rentals when we're not able to enjoy it.

We trolled France and the Internet for two years in search of our ideal and, despite missing out on two wonderful water mills, we finally chose Les Terraces. We immediately fell in love with the tranquil views of the Dordogne river and the convenience of being in a small, beautiful and ancient town.

As you can probably guess from the decor of the house, we love sailing and all water sports. We also love food and wine, particularly French food and wine, so our choice of a second home was obvious!

Thank you for visiting and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
